Byzantine Empire, ca. 10th to 12th century AD. A slender Byzantine bronze cross pendant of simple and elegant form, composed of cylindrical arms intersecting at a rounded central node. Each arm terminates in subtle ringed collars, lending the piece a balanced and architectural appearance characteristic of medieval Byzantine metalwork. A small suspension loop at the top allowed the cross to be worn as a personal devotional pendant.

The cross retains a dark olive-green patina across the surface with lighter areas of wear and encrustation consistent with age. Its restrained decoration reflects the Byzantine preference for symbolic clarity over excessive ornamentation, particularly in objects intended for daily religious use.

Bronze crosses such as this were widely worn throughout the Byzantine world as expressions of personal faith and protection. Though modest in material, they carried deep spiritual significance and formed part of the everyday devotional life of Eastern Mediterranean Christians.
