A finely crafted Classical-period gold pendant dating to circa 500–400 BC, set with an elegant conical drop of banded agate suspended within an ornate gold mount. The elongated agate terminal tapers to a sharp point and displays delicate natural striations in warm tones of honey, amber, and smoky grey, creating a subtle translucence that shifts beautifully in changing light.

The stone is secured within a broad flat collar richly embellished with applied scrollwork and granulation. Graceful curvilinear motifs unfold around the circumference of the mount, punctuated by tiny granulated pellets that demonstrate the remarkable technical precision of ancient goldsmiths.

Above the collar rises a domed finial surmounted by a cylindrical suspension loop, itself decorated en suite with matching ornamental motifs, lending the pendant a balanced and harmonious architectural form.

Jewels of this type were produced in the Greek and Eastern Mediterranean world during the Classical era, a period renowned for exceptional refinement in miniature metalwork. The sophisticated combination of filigree-like ornament, granulation, and carefully selected hardstone reflects the luxury tastes of elite patrons and the advanced craftsmanship of specialised workshops.

Agate was highly esteemed in antiquity for both its aesthetic and symbolic qualities. Its naturally banded appearance was believed to possess protective and apotropaic properties, while pointed pendants of this form may also have functioned as amuletic ornaments in addition to personal adornment. The warm contrast between luminous gold and polished agate creates a jewel of striking visual richness despite its small scale.
