Byzantine Empire, ca. 10th to 12th century AD. A bronze cross pendant of flat, broad form with flaring arms terminating in pointed, bifurcated tips, giving the piece a bold and distinctive silhouette. The front face is decorated with incuse concentric circle motifs — one at the centre and one on each arm terminal — set against an otherwise plain surface. The reverse is undecorated. An integral suspension loop at the top allowed it to be worn as a personal devotional object.

The surface retains a deep grey-black patina throughout, with areas of lighter wear along the edges revealing the underlying metal. The punched circle ornament is a well-attested decorative device in Byzantine metalwork, carrying apotropaic as well as aesthetic significance.

Bronze crosses such as this were widely worn throughout the Byzantine world as expressions of Christian faith and spiritual protection, serving as both everyday jewelry and intimate objects of devotion.
