Byzantine Empire, ca. 10th to 12th century AD. A Byzantine bronze cross pendant cast in an ornate form with bulbous finials and decorative collars along each arm. The cross is built around a central square section from which four tapering arms extend outward, each terminating in rounded knop-like ends characteristic of medieval Byzantine devotional jewelry.

The pendant retains a rich green and brown patina across its surface, with areas of light encrustation consistent with age. A suspension loop at the top allowed the piece to be worn from a cord or chain as a personal expression of Christian faith and protection.
Crosses of this type were widely worn throughout the Byzantine world by ordinary believers and clergy alike. Though modest in material, they carried deep devotional significance, serving both as visible declarations of faith and as protective amulets in daily life.
