Byzantine Empire, ca. 10th to 12th century AD. A bronze cross pendant of plain, unadorned form, each arm cast as a simple rounded rod with slightly flaring terminals, meeting at an undecorated central junction. An integral suspension loop at the top allowed it to be worn as a personal devotional object.

The surface is heavily patinated in deep grey and black with scattered traces of verdigris, reflecting long burial. The absence of ornament gives the piece a stark, unpretentious character, speaking to the humble devotion of its original owner.

Bronze crosses such as this were widely worn throughout the Byzantine world as expressions of Christian faith and spiritual protection, serving as both everyday jewelry and intimate objects of devotion.
