Byzantine Empire, ca. 10th to 12th century AD. A Byzantine bronze cross pendant cast in an ornate openwork form with rounded trefoil terminals composed of clustered knop-like projections. The cross follows the traditional Greek cross shape, with arms of nearly equal length extending from a raised central junction.

Its sculptural design and pronounced rounded terminals reflect decorative forms commonly seen in middle Byzantine devotional metalwork. A suspension loop rises above the upper arm, allowing the piece to be worn from a cord or chain as a personal expression of Christian faith and protection.

The surface retains a dark brown and green patina with minor traces of encrustation consistent with age. Crosses of this type were widely worn throughout the Byzantine world as devotional pendants, valued both for their symbolic meaning and their protective, apotropaic character.
